Restoring a Forgotten Classic

Restoring a forgotten classic.

While routine maintenance and inspections are just some of the more basic services that we provide here at Sky Manor Air Repair and Avionics, our experienced professionals are more than capable of providing more involved service work as well.

Sky Manor Air Repair

As an example, we recently had the opportunity to do a complete restoration on what was once a beautiful 1953 Cessna C-180. We use the word opportunity because it really has been a pleasure to have her in our shop and watch her transform both mechanically and cosmetically from a plane that was neglected to something that turns heads.

Here’s what we did.

N1564C has been in the Geisert family for over 50 years and currently owned by Carl Geisert who learned to fly in it when he was just a teenager. To protect the innocent, let’s just say that was quite a long time ago.

Back in the early 1990’s her beautiful condition won her awards in the Classic Category at the Oshkosh airshow.

Carl’s brother, Doug, had owned her for the past 15 years or so and kept her here at Sky Manor Airport (N40). Over the past few years 64C was not used as much and unfortunately sat idle for some time. With Doug’s passing last summer, Carl once again assumed ownership of this classic.

Determined to get her back into Oshkosh winning form, Carl had her wheeled into Sky Manor Air Repair for a complete restoration.

Among the many areas that needed attention included:

  • Exterior Paint Re-Conditioning
  • Interior Head Liner Replacement
  • Windshield Replacement
  • Side Window Replacement
  • Complete Engine Replacement

Now that 64C is completed and ready to fly again, Carl will be taking her back to his home in Phoenix, Arizona.Having her in our shop these past many weeks was truly a treat for all of us. Seeing her off and back in the air will be bittersweet for sure. But then again, perhaps she will once again take home the prize in Oshkosh thanks to the skillful hands of the Sky Manor Air Repair team!

Special mention to Glenn Sinibaldi for his contributions.

So, no matter the plane, no matter the back story, the team at Sky Manor Sir Repair and Avionics has the tools and experience to to make your treasured aircraft ot only air-worthy, but air-worthy with style!
